The rituals of Hajj are essential because they help pilgrims reach a spiritually pure state called “ihram,” which means getting rid of signs of materialism. The pilgrim gives up the pleasures of this world so that they can focus on their inner selves instead of how they look. The rituals test the pilgrims’ tolerance and patience.

Before noon on the 9th Dhul Hijjah, the pilgrims go to Arafah, a flat, empty land. They stand there in silent contemplation. They will beg Allah for forgiveness for their wrongdoings and ask for his mercy. Islamic scholars will deliver the sermon (Khutba) to them. It is considered one of the most significant aspects of Hajj. We call it waqf, and it lasts from noon until sunset. At Masjid al-Namirah, the pilgrims will pray together at noon and again in the afternoon. Otherwise, the pilgrim’s Hajj is invalid because they did not spend the afternoon in Arafah.

Mina is a valley surrounded by mountains. People come here to pray on Dhul Hijjah’s 8th, 11th, and 12th. They can sometimes also stay here on the 13th night. You can even see Jamarat’s three stone pillars in Mina Hajj, an essential part of the stoning ritual.

Being able to stay in Mina is important because pilgrims stay in tents all day and night. This is called Layali al-Tashriq. They will read from the Holy Quran and offer prayers. They will worship Allah SWT and participate in zikr prayers. They also listen to talks about Islam.

Muzdalifah is a flat, open area in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia close to Mecca. It is located southeast of Mina, on the road from Mina to Arafat.

The ninth day of Dhul Hijjah is celebrated in Muzdalifah. It will be outside, in the open air. Pilgrims will gather these rocks to throw at the Jamarat pillars.

A pilgrim can pray to Allah SWT when they get to Muzdalifah. They will seek Allah SWT’s blessing and forgiveness. They are ready for the next three days of Hajj; they can rest here.

The pilgrims are going to leave Muzdalifah for Mina before dawn.

The ninth day of Dhul Hijjah is the Day of Arafat. When Muslims visit Arafat, they pray and ask Allah SWT for various blessings. This day also marks the revelation of the following ayah, adding to its significance. “Today, I have perfected your religion, finished my favor with you, and said that Islam is a good religion for you.” (5:3) Surah al Maa’idah.

Mahram is Arabic word, it means a male member of one’s family with whom marriage is considered to be haram. When she marries, the husband becomes her mahram, which implies she is close by relationship.
